Stuffing our bellies and hearts in Mexico City

Mexico City is easily one of my favorite cities in the world. It’s got everything from amazing food, drinks, culture, history, shopping, and vibbbbbbbeeees - wow, visit in February, like we did, and the vibes will have you under a spell forever.

Here’s a snapshot of our itinerary:

Travel tips

  • Where to stay? Roma Norte or Condesa — most places we wanted to eat at were located in these two neighborhoods.

  • When to go? I’ve been in February and on a previous trip, in September (rainy season), and would definitely recommend February, when the Jacaranda trees are just starting to bloom.

  • Don’t miss? Barbacoa and the Ciclovía on Sundays. The shopping. The coffee. And just wandering the streets.

Food

  • Eat concha y nata for breakfast.

  • Eat as much fresh fruit as possible. For me, there’s nothing like ripe mango with tajín. The local markets will have so many fruits for you to try and if you’d like a guide to help you navigate them, check out my buddy John’s food tour company.

  • Take home packaged snacks — I love the Lucky Gummys Manguitos!

  • Eat as many tacos as you can. We had planned to do a DIY taco tour, but ran out of time, so I will be back to fulfill that wish.

Final thoughts

  • If you do anything, do a walking tour of Mexico City’s Historic District — in less than three hours, you will get a snapshot of Mexico City’s history, which is so critical to deepening your understanding for the culture and its people.

  • Do a food tour! Highly recommend this one with my buddy John. He’s fantastic and you’ll walk away feeling more connected to the city.

  • And finally, just be present. Don’t jam-pack your itinerary. Soak it all in and wander.
